NKT Photonics now part of Hamamatsu Photonics

Our Clusterpartner NKT Photonics is happy to announce that as of June 1, 2024, the acquisition is complete, and we are now part of Hamamatsu Photonics – one of the oldest and most respected photonics companies in the world.

Founded in Japan in 1953, Hamamatsu Photonics today has more than 5,800 employees worldwide and an annual revenue of about 1.3 billion EUR.

Hamamatsu Photonics specializes in optical sensors, electric light sources, and other optical devices and instruments for scientific, industrial, and medical use.

At NKT Photonics, we are excited and honored to become part of Hamamatsu Photonics, one of the most respected global companies in our industry. We share common goals and a vision of providing the best solutions to our customers and innovators. Together, and with our complementary technology platforms, we will be stronger than ever,” says Basil Garabet, CEO of NKT Photonics.

With over two decades of experience and a leading market position within photonic crystal fibers and advanced fiber lasers, NKT Photonics is a great match for Hamamatsu Photonics’ renowned detector and light-source portfolio.

We are very pleased to welcome NKT Photonics to the Hamamatsu Photonics group, where they will form the backbone of our laser division. By combining Hamamatsu’s expertise within photodetectors with NKT Photonics’ market-leading lasers and fibers, we will be able to provide unique system solutions to our core markets,” says Tadashi Maruno, CEO Hamamatsu Photonics.

NKT Photonics will continue as a subsidiary with responsibility for fiber and laser development, manufacturing, and commercialization within the Hamamatsu Photonics group. As part of Hamamatsu Photonics, NKT will continue to develop their industry-leading solutions and further increase market reach.

The product portfolio will remain unchanged, and they will continue to operate under their own branding to ensure continuity for their customers, suppliers, and business partners.
