Gigahertz introduces SphereSpectro 150H — A true Highlight in Spectrophotometry

As part of the SpectroNet network, we are pleased to share product news from our member Gigahertz, highlighting the SphereSpectro 150H, a powerful spectrophotometer designed for precise and fast measurements across a wide variety of sample types.

Spectrophotometry is one of the most important methods of quantitative analysis in fields such as chemistry, physics, biochemistry, material engineering, chemical engineering, and clinical applications. It is based on measuring how substances absorb or transmit light over a certain wavelength range. Since every compound interacts with light in a characteristic way, spectrophotometry can provide a spectral fingerprint of a sample and support the determination of known substances.

Classical spectrophotometry, however, often faces practical limitations. Measurements across a broad spectral range from UV to near-infrared can take a considerable amount of time, especially when scanning devices based on double monochromators are used. Depending on wavelength range and sampling interval, measurement times of 10 to 20 minutes are common.

Another challenge lies in the measurement of turbid, diffuse, or scattering samples. In these cases, part of the light is scattered rather than absorbed, making it necessary to determine not only the spectral absorption coefficient but also the spectral scattering coefficient. Designing a measurement setup that can capture both quantities accurately and with low uncertainty is a demanding task.

With the SphereSpectro 150 Series, Gigahertz provides a spectrophotometer solution for all sample types — including diffuse, scattering, transparent, liquid, and solid samples. Thanks to the use of array spectrometers, measurements can be completed within just a few seconds in the VIS and NIR ranges, or within a few minutes across the full spectral range.

A patented design and dedicated software algorithm enable precise and accurate measurements even for challenging turbid and diffuse samples. The system uses extensive ray tracing combined with accurate modelling to deliver reliable results.

For turbid and diffuse samples, the SphereSpectro 150H enables the simultaneous determination of the spectral absorption coefficient and the effective scattering coefficient. For clear samples, it supports classical 8°/d measurement geometry, allowing absorption and transmission measurements in accordance with established standards such as DIN 5036-3 and CIE 130-1998.

The SphereSpectro 150H combines broad spectral capabilities with practical handling. Its main features include UV, VIS, and IR spectral ranges, a large sample compartment with several probe fixing options, intuitive plug-and-play software, tabletop device design, and easy sample handling.

For the SpectroNet community, the SphereSpectro 150H is an excellent example of how advanced optical measurement technology can help overcome real-world analytical challenges. By enabling fast, precise, and absolute measurements across very different sample types, Gigahertz supports laboratories and industrial users in gaining more reliable insights into materials, liquids, and complex optical samples.

We congratulate Gigahertz on this innovative spectrophotometer solution and look forward to seeing how the SphereSpectro 150H will support new applications in research, development, quality assurance, and industrial analytics.
